FM girls sixth at Big Red Invite; boys seventh

FMMS teams take titles in both girls and boys 1.5 mile runs

CENTERVILLE - The Fort Madison High School cross country teams took sixth and seventh at the Centerville Big Red Cross Country Invitational Tuesday.

A young Lady Hounds squad was led by Paetyn Weigand who had the highest finish of the evening with a sixth-place finish at 20:29, 1:03 behind front runner Rylee Dunkin of Twin Cedars.

Freshman Allison Lamb was 16th overall with a time of 21:51. The other three scoring finishers for the Lady Hounds were freshman Jordyn Burch 44th at 23:45, senior Raquel Schneider at 24:04 (47th) and freshman Alexa Walz who finished 69th overall at 25:45.

Freshman Lillian Gelsthorpe ran a 25:49 and freshman Emma Kern ran a 28:11.

In the boys' run, Fort Madison senior Hayden Wolfe took 13th overall with a time of 17:55. Wolfe led the Hounds runners to a sixth-place finish.

Senior Will Gager took 18th overall with a time of 18:28. Fort Madison's other scoring runners were Austin Miller at 18:48 (34th), John Contrell, a sophomore with a time of 18:55 (38th), and Jacob Shottenkirk, a freshman finished 41st with a time of 18:57.

Peyton Lambert took 58th place with a time of 19:28 and Ben Thele finished 69th with a time of 20:29.

Oskaloosa's Patrict Deronde ran the 5K in a time of 16:22. Davis County's Carson Shively took second at 16:29. The Mustangs won the team event with an 88, just two points ahead of Oskaloosa.

Cameron Shutwell was the top boys junior varsity runners with a time of 20:44. Gavyn Siemens was 27th overall at 21:50 and Calvin Johnson took 37th overall with a time of 22:20.

Avery and Addison Rump dominated the girls middle school run taking first and second respectively The girls led the Hounds to a first-place finish. Avery ran a 9:26, while Addison finished at 9:50. Ellie Huebner ran a 10:49 for Fort Madison and Hadley Wolfe took 13th overall with an 11:01.

Charley Huebner rounded out the scoring runners for FMMS with an 11:21 (18th place). Caralena Crooks ran an 11:49 good enough for 21st place, and Kaydey Plate ran a 12:06 for the Little Hounds who had 44 points followed by Davis County's 55 and Oskaloosa's 58.

Fort Madison also won the boys middle school 1.5 mile race with 56 points. Mason McLey led the boys with an 8:31 (3rd place) followed right behind by Nolan Guzman at 8:52. Hunter Weigand was 6th at 9:02. Karson Dixon and Riley Tripp rounded out the scoring runners at 18th and 25th place respectively.

Owen Menke and Jake Haessig were 26th and 27th right behind Tripp to finish up for the Hounds.
