Daniel Carl “Danny” Haffner, 86, of rural Farmington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021, at his home in rural Farmington.
He was born on July 19, 1935, at his childhood home in rural Farmington, Iowa, the son of Carl D. and Irene (Shoemaker) Haffner. On July 10, 1960, he married Carol Jean “Jeanie” Buck at the Santa Fe United Methodist Church in Fort Madison, Iowa.
He is survived by his children: one son Tony Haffner of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter Dana (Vernon) Hoskins of New London, Iowa; siblings: Geraldine Watkins of Fort Madison, Iowa, Ramona Mills of Fort Collins, Colorado; Joe (Linda) Haffner of Farmington, Iowa; brother-in-law: Guy Mills of Burlington, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: the love of his life of fifty-three years Jeanie; siblings: Winona Mills, Larita (Don) Gibbs and Wanda Wilken; brothers-in-law: Lyle Mills and Wendall Watkins
Danny was a graduate of Farmington High School. He was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church. The early days of farming with his parents and siblings led to Danny and Jeanie’s farming on their own and eventual expansion into the transportation business. Starting with just one truck, the business grew to half a dozen. The two continued to grow their farming and trucking operation into a thriving success with the help of Danny’s drive to achieve and his persistent work ethic. Their love for one another showed and was a constant as they were inseparable in all they did. A passion for Peterbilt trucks and Minneapolis Moline tractors kept Danny busy and this was passed down to his son, Tony. While many derive pleasure from vacations and time off, Danny found his pleasure in hard work and working with his hands. A master of the “farmer fix” and his ability to do nearly anything mechanical was a trademark of his. An avid automobile enthusiast, he enjoyed racing his 1957 Corvette back in the day. Since then he has continued to enjoy the original classic cars he has collected over the years. Danny loved drinking coffee and talking shop with about anyone. His sense of humor and jokes were contagious and put a smile on so many faces. He was a devoted husband, family man and friend to many. Danny has left us with a tear in our eye, but with so very many memories to smile about. From an incredible family vacation in 1976 to the construction of a new home, and many other achievements, he has truly left his mark in this world.
