Lady Hounds wrap conference tourney at 2-3

Fort Madison goes 0-3 at Durant weekend invitational

FAIRFIELD - The Fort Madison Lady Hounds went 2-3 at the two-day Southeast Iowa Conference tournament that wrapped up Tuesday night.

The Hounds lost to Burlington in two sets 20-25, 20-25 and then beat Washington 25-22, 25-11 before losing to Keokuk 22-25, 25-21, 9-15.

Madison Pirri served seven aces on the night and had 36 digs. Hattie Schrepfer served eight aces on the night in the middle of 24 of 24 serving.

Alaina Simpson had 17 kills and two solo blocks, while Taylor Johnson led blocking with four solos on the night. Eve Ruble also contributed eight kills on the night.

Fort Madison also dropped three matches on Saturday at the Durant Invitational.

Maquoketa beat the Hounds in the first round 14-21, 12-21 before host Durant beat Fort Madison 14-21, 11-21. Davenport West then downed the Bloodhounds in a tiebreaker 25-17, 12-25, 10-15 in the consolation bracket.

Simpson had 20 kills at the event and was 13 of 14 serving with an ace. Molly Knipe had four aces and went 22 of 26 serving. She also led the Hounds with 34 assists. Pirri led in digs from the libero spot with 29.

Fort Madison finished fourth in the six-team Southeast Conference at 4-6 on the year, and stand at 8-22 on the year overall.

Fort Madison wraps up the regular season tonight at the Mediapolis triangular along with Holy Trinity Catholic, Mediapolis and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont.

The Hounds open the post-season Tuesday at Solon at 7 p.m.
