LEE COUNTY - Lee County Conservation Director Nathan Unsworth announced his resignation at this morning's Lee County Board of Supervisor's meeting.

On Friday, Unsworth notified the Lee County Conservation Board of his resignation effective Dec.1. He will be taking a position with the Scott County Conservation District as Deputy Director.

On Tuesday, the Conservation Board will meet to officially accept Nathan’s resignation and start the hiring process for the next Director.

Liza Alton, Lee County Conservation Board President, said, “We will be doing an extensive state-wide search for our new Director. We have made great strides over the past few years, and we will be looking for a forward-thinking leader who can continue to take Lee County Conservation to new levels.”

“The new position is a great opportunity for me personally. However, it was hard to leave Lee County Conservation. Lee County has provided me with many great experiences and memories that I will carry with me throughout my career. I am proud of all the positive projects the Board, staff, Foundation, community partners, and I have accomplished together over the last four years. It truly has been an honor to meet and work with so many great people from around Lee County,” Unsworth said.

“The Lee County Conservation Board and I are sad that Nathan is leaving LCCB, but also happy for him. We will miss him, and we are thankful for his commitment to Lee County Conservation. He has led the LCCB in a clear and positive direction, and our goal is to find a new director who can continue to lead the organization in a positive direction. We wish Nathan all the best in his future role," Alton said

Unsworth will remain with LCCB through the beginning of December. “Over the next few weeks, I will be working with the Conservation Board and staff to finalize projects planned for this fiscal year and help devise a transition plan for the organization. I have committed to the Board that I will do all that I can to ensure a successful transition.”

During Nathan’s tenure at Lee County Conservation, LCCB completed several capital improvement projects, including the recent Chatfield campground improvements, Pollmiller Playground, and the fish habitat project at North Heron Bend. The upgrades have led to increasing usage at all major county parks in the county. Lee County Conservation has also worked to expand programming and outreach efforts over the past few years.

The Lee County Conservation Board will begin its search for a new Director in the coming days. Those interested in applying are encouraged to watch leecounty.org for an official job announcement.
