Elaine Margaret Younkin, 89, of Ft. Madison, IA formerly of Montrose, IA, died Saturday October 9, 2021 at the Ft. Madison Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

She was born on July 10, 1932 in Donnellson, IA, the daughter of Clemons and Velma Kirchner Anton.  She graduated from the Donnellson High School with the Class of 1951.

On March 15, 1953, Elaine was united in marriage to Robert C. Younkin in Donnellson, IA.  He preceded her in death on March 10, 2012.

She was a member of the Montrose Presbyterian Church, King’s Daughters and the Republican Caucus.  She sang in the St. Barnabas Choir in Montrose.

Elaine was an avid seamstress and made many of her own clothes as well as clothing for her children.  She was a gardener with a green thumb and enjoyed working in her flower beds and her vegetable garden.  Elaine and Robert enjoyed traveling world-wide with her sister and brother in-law, Vivian & Dale, visiting such places as Europe, Africa and an Amazon cruise   Elaine was a devoted homemaker and farmer’s wife and spent her life making a wonderful home for her husband and children.

She is survived by two sons, Douglas (Martha) Younkin of Union, MO and Alan (Michael Schelp) Younkin of Manhattan, NY, one daughter, Joann (Don) Mutch of Moline, IL, eight grandchildren, Joshua Younkin of Virginia, Adam (Madeline) Younkin of Longmont, CO, Michelle (Philip) Moe of Geneseo, IL, Morgan (Lainey) Younkin of Boston, MA, Hayley (Chris) Younkin-Wilson of Chicago, IL, Leah (Danny) Colon-Younkin of  Denver, CO, Eric (Kelly) Mutch of  Elmhurst, IL and Gordon Younkin of Ithaca, NY,  seven great-grandchildren, Callan & Beckett Moe, Jackson Mutch, Branson & Jude Younkin, and twins, Evie and Sybil Younkin-Wilson.  She is also survived by one sister, Vivian Weber of Montrose and two brothers, Harold (Alice) Anton of Ft. Collins, CO and Ed (Becky) Anton of Sacramento, CA.

Besides her husband, Elaine was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law Sybil Younkin and a brother-in-law, Dale Weber.

Private family services were held.

Memorials may be made to Ft. Madison Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center or the Montrose Township Historical Society.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Montrose is assisting the family with arrangements.
