Andrew “Andy” James McWhortor, 69, of Fort Madison passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 12:47 PM at his home.

He was born on May 23, 1952 in Keosauqua to Craig and Iris Phillips McWhortor. On July 1, 1994 he married Deborah Franklin in Ft. Madison. Andy retired from Fruehauf as a welder and following retirement he was a tax preparer and also drove bus for the FMCSD. Andy proudly served in the US Navy where he built ships. He enjoyed woodworking, trading baseball cards, animals and was an avid sports fan; especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Andy was a Boy Scout member most of his life and achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed his time being a Scout Leader. He was also involved in helping with the Special Olympics.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah McWhortor of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Christina Franklin of Minneapolis, MN, Belinda Shallcross of Ft. Madison and Jessica McWhortor of Ft. Madison; six grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, Emma, Nora, David and Benjamin; a half brother, Jim Carey of Danville and several cousins including Kent and Kirk McWhortor and Randy Cummings. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Jeff Metcalf officiating. The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
