Area girls selected for volleyball classic

Freesmeier named to coaching staff

MEDIAPOLIS - Four girls and a coach from north Lee County were selected to participate in the 28th Annual Southeast Iowa Volleyball Classic next month.

Macy and Maura Watkins from Central Lee, and Kassi Randolph and Anna Sobczak from Holy Trinity Catholic were selected to play in the classic which starts at 7 p.m.

Holy Trinity Catholic Head Coach Melissa Freesmeier was also selected to be part of the coaching squads for the classic.

The match features the top high school senior volleyball players from southeast Iowa. Selected players were first nominated by their coach, placed on a ballot, and voted on by the varsity volleyball coaches of the Southeast Conference and Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Entry is $5.00

The 2021 players include: Burlington -Jayah Kent; Central Lee - Macy Watkins, Maura Watkins; Danville - Ava Smith; Holy Trinity -Kassi Randolph, Anna Sobzak; L&M - Kaylee Corbin; Mediapolis - Brianna Birkenstock, Emma Hastings, Cara Knoke, Cami Whitaker; Mt. Pleasant - Kenna Lamm; Notre Dame: Jenna Bentz, Josie Bentz, Megan Harrell, Katy Stephens; New London - Paris Wilka; Wapello - Tricia Hank, Lindsy Massner, Serah Shafer; West Burlington - Grace Hoenig; Winfield-Mt. Union - Morgan Grelk, Carlee Sloan.

Joining Freesmeier on the coaching staff will be Lindsey Johnson of New London; Kenna Griener of Wapello and Maureen Heath of West Burlington.
