Nancy Elaine Buechel, 73, of Farmington, Iowa, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Unity Point in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was born on March 19, 1948, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Howeing) Schreck. On July 20, 1968, she married Thomas A. Buechel in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2018.
Survivors include her three children: Janet (Michael) Browning of Farmington, Iowa, Bradley (Melissa) Buechel of Farmington, Iowa and Stephanie Buechel of Houston, Texas; twelve grandchildren: Levi, Nieca, Shira, Haley, Cameron, Keegan, Jersey, Jayla, Jentry, Jovan, Joshawn and Shayla; three great grandchildren: Kaimrin, Vidi, Ashton and two on the way; brother: Chuck (Ruth) Schreck of Missouri; two sisters: Virginia Brown of Cookeville, Tennessee and Joyce (Jim) Kamp of Argyle, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Thomas; brother: Joe and Sisters: Evelyn, Alice, and Connie.
Nancy was the matriarch of her family. She was always just a phone call away. Her largest life accomplishment truly was her grandchilden and great grandchildren. The time she spent with them was priceless. Out of high school, Nancy moved to Fort Madison, Iowa to work at Sheaffer Pen and in time met and married the love of her life, Tom. In 1996, they moved to rural Farmington, Iowa. She worked at Riverside Plastic for twenty-seven years, retiring in 2010. After retirement, she enjoyed time with her family which included her favorite pastimes: cards, dominos, horse camp, walks with her dog “Boots” and lunch dates with family.
Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Friday, October 29, 2021, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that evening.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington with Father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.
Burial will be at Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.
A memorial has been established in her memory for the Farmington American Legion.
