Barr Memorial Chapel obituary – Vera Mae Schleif, 91, West Burlington

Vera Mae Schleif, 91 years, of West Burlington, Iowa and formerly of Fort Madison died Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the Covenant Care Center in Pensacola, Florida.  She was born July 6, 1930 in Croton, Iowa a daughter of William McKinley McPherson and Bertha Esther (Raines) McPherson.  On January 22, 1950 at Fort Madison Iowa she married Arthur Eric Schleif.

She grew up in Fort Madison and graduated from Fort Madison High School.  She worked at the Shaeffer Pen Company and the Iowa Ordnance Plant until her husband, Art, became a pastor in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.  They were pastors of churches in Mississippi, Missouri and Iowa. 

She is survived by one son Brad (Sheryl) Schleif of Pensacola Florida; one sister, Alice Jean Ray of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two grandsons, Dustin (Dawn) Schleif and Greg (Trina) Schleif, both of Central California; numerous nieces and nephews.  Vera Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven brothers and sisters.

The funeral for Mrs. Schleif will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, officiated by her son, Pastor Brad Schleif.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the Barr Memorial Chapel, beginning at 9:30 am Tuesday morning.  Burial will be at Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, Iowa.  A memorial has been established, contributions may be left or sent to the Barr Memorial Chapel, 1919 Ave F, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Schleif family and online condolences to the family may be made at www.barrmemorialchapel.com
