Stensvaag, Boddicker apply for Brown’s seat in District 8

FORT MADISON – Current Assistant Lee County Attorney Jonathan Stensvaag has applied to fill the judge’s seat that will be open Jan. 1 with the retirement of Mary Ann Brown.

Stensvaag joins former Lee County Attorney and current District 8B Associate Judge Clinton Boddicker as candidates for the spot.

Two other candidates are Justin C. Stonerook, of Burlington, and Adam Parsons, the current Louisa County Attorney in filling Brown’s chair.

Brown, who currently serves as the Chief District Judge for District 8B, submitted her letter of retirement, effective December 31, 2021.  The 8th Judicial District was granted approval to fill the vacancy.  The application deadline closed Friday. 

Interviews will be conducted on November 8, at the Des Moines County Courthouse, 513 North Main Street, in Burlington.  The interviews will be open for public observation and listening.  The public shall not be allowed to ask questions or make comments.  Applicant submissions and materials will be open to the public. 

Prior to November 8, the public will be permitted to submit comments or recommendations regarding the qualifications of an applicant by email to cathy.reck@iowacourts.gov.

The Commission will submit the names of two nominees to Governor Reynolds, who will then appoint one within 30 days.
