Rodney Lynn Shipman, 57, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, in his home.
Rodney was born on September 9, 1964, in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Henry and Sonja (Maynard) Shipman.
Rodney was a 1982 graduate of Dallas City High School. While in high school, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. His love for sports continued following high school. He could often be found coaching basketball and baseball, playing slow pitch softball, or cheering on the Denver Broncos and St. Louis Cardinals. Rodney was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, mushroom hunting, deer hunting, and fishing, especially for catfish and hosting fish fries. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was employed at Conagra Foods, Fort Madison, Iowa, for over 20 years.
He is survived by his parents: Henry and Sonja Shipman; five children: Jeremy (Megan) Shipman of Dallas City, Illinois, Josh (Lacey) Shipman of Dallas City, Illinois, Jennifer (Josh) Skinner of Nauvoo, Illinois, Ethan (Lauren) Lillard of Hamilton, Illinois and Colten Shipman of Dallas City, Illinois; ten grandchildren: Kamari, Giano, Bella, Morgan, Camden, Chase, Mackenzie, Madison, Brayden and Enzo; one brother: Steve (Mary) Shipman of Basco, Illinois, and one sister: Rhonda (Tony) Francis of Clarksville, Missouri. Also, surviving is his special dog: Rufus. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
The funeral service for Rodney will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Banks & Beals where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
