Woman killed in Tuesday collision on Hwy. 218

LEE COUNTY - An area woman has been killed as a result of a collision early Tuesday afternoon west of West Point.

According to Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber, the woman was heading eastbound on J40 and turned into northbound traffic where a semi that was headed northbound on Hwy. 218 collided with her vehicle.

Weber said the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.

Sheriff's deputies had the northbound section of the highway closed for almost four hours until just after 5 p.m. Traffic was rerouted through Pilot Grove. The accident was called into LeeComm at approximately 1:20 p.m.

Iowa State Patrol, West Point Fire & Rescue, and Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene. Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident.
