Lady Crusaders down Cardinal, fall to Mepo

FORT MADISON - The Holy Trinity Crusaders had three players in double figures as they downed Cardinal Friday 55-39.

Mary Kate Bendlage had a dozen points in the win, while Natalie and Kassi Randolph both had 11.

Holy Trinity took control early as the Crusaders got to the free throw line 10 times in the early going. Bendlage shot 6 of 12 from the line on the night as part of her team-high 12.

The Crusaders pushed the lead to 31-22 at the end of the 3rd quarter and then outscored Cardinal 20-17 down the stretch where HTC went to the free throw line 22 times in the fourth quarter.

Raquel Schneider and Brooke Mueller each had six points in the win. Teagan Snaadt had five, while Kayla Box and Reagan Holvoet each scored two for the 3-1 Crusaders.

On Saturday, the Crusaders couldn't catch up with a prolific Mediapolis squad who put up a 73-51 win in Southeast Iowa Superconference action.

The Bulldogs raced out to 49-25 first half lead. Holy Trinity made some adjustments and outscored Mediapolis 26-24 in the second half, but the game was already out of reach.

Bendlage had 10 points for HTC, but notable was nine different players scored for the Crusaders. Natalie Randolph, Raquel Schneider and Anna Bendlage each had eight on the night. Brooke Mueller had seven and Kassi Randolph scored four points.

Teagan Snaadt, Ellie Lake and Mary Hellige all contributed two in the Crusaders first loss of the year.

HTC takes on Van Buren tonight in a girls/boys varsity double header at Shottenkirk Gymnasium.
