DONNELLSON - A stifling half-court defense carried Central Lee girls to a 61-32 win over Danville Tuesday in a Southeast Iowa Superconference game at Central Lee.

The Hawks had four girls in double figures for the first time this year, continuing to showcase a balanced scoring attack.

Alivia Myhre caught fire with 15 points to lead Central Lee. Macy Watkins scored 11, while Makayla Morrison and Maura Watkins each had 10 on the night.

Karlie Pohren just missed making it five players in double figures when she went 4 of 6 from the freethrow line and converted a couple first quarter buckets to finish with eight. Her four in the first quarter helped Central Lee to a 10-7 first-quarter lead.

Danville made a run midway through the second period to close the gap to just one at 19-18. The Hawks had had enough and turned the momentum for a 10-3 run to close out the half up 29-21.

Danville then converted just one freethrow in the third period as the Lady Hawks ratcheted up the defensive pressure, while scoring in transition off turnovers in the half court, pushing the lead to 41-22 going into the final period.

Central Lee would put up another 20 points in the final period to put the game away. No Danville player was in double figures for the night. Gracie Walker led Danville with seven points. Makenzie Morris and Riley Morris each had six points for the Bears (1-2).

The Hawks move to 3-1 on the year, and host 6-0 Winfield-Mt. Union on Friday night.
