Fort Madison girls roll Washington

WASHINGTON - Malarie Ross and Camille Kruse combined for 34 points and 17 steals as Fort Madison downed Washington 49-18 Tuesday night.

Malarie Ross scored 23 points, 14 in the second half to lead the Lady Hounds. Kruse had 11, while Anna Lynk added a couple three pointers for six points. Coree James had four points, Taylor Johnson hit a 3-ball in the fourth quarter for her three points and Molly Knipe had a bucket for two points to round out the Hounds' scoring.

Fort Madison went up 8-2 midway through the first quarter and extended that lead to 14-2 at the end of the first.

Washington pulled things together in the second quarter outscoring Fort Madison 8-7 and trailed 21-10 at the half.

But Fort Madison would hold the Demons scoreless in the third quarter to pull away for a 29-10 lead. Ross would put up 12 in the fourth quarter as Fort Madison put the game away.

Ross had 28 and Kruse scored 22 in a 67-51 win over Danville on the road Monday night.

Fort Madison put up 39 points in the first half alone as the Bears had trouble containing Fort Madison's dual scoring threat.

Irelynd Sargent had four points in the win. Knipe led the Hounds in rebounds with 15. Kruse had 10 boards on the night.

Fort Madison improves to 5-3 overall and is off for the holidays until Jan. 7 when Mt. Pleasant comes to the Hound Dome.
