FORT MADISON - Providing library services to the community of Fort Madison is definitely a group effort.

Library employees work hard every day to provide quality customer service, get new materials on the shelf, and develop and promote programs and services.  Library volunteers supplement their efforts, helping to provide some extra services.  We have volunteers who are working on indexes to genealogy resources to make it easier for people to track down their family history.  Other volunteers help to put materials back on the shelf, freeing up employee time to develop and prepare for the many programs the library offers.

Last, but far from least, the Friends of the Library, led by President Dave Fageol, work year round to raise funds for the library to support our programs and provide some of those extras that can really make programs special.  The Friends group hosts three book sales every year that not only provide additional funding for the library but also provide a source of inexpensive used books for the many bookworms in Fort Madison.

If you want to get involved as a volunteer or join the Friends of the Library, contact Sarah Clendineng for more information.  Membership in the Friends of the Library is free if you are able to help set up and/or staff at least one of the book sales in April, July or November.  Again, thank you to all of the past, present and future volunteers and employees of the Fort Madison Public Library whose efforts have created a fantastic community asset.

Thursday Crafternoon: A Program for Adults and Older Teens

Being creative and expressing yourself artistically is a great way to keep your brain active at all ages.  The library offers an opportunity to do this on Thursday afternoons.  While the program is weekly, the goal is to take your time and work on more elaborate projects that may take several weeks to complete.  Past projects have included acrylic pour paintings, learning macramé and making seasonal wreaths and centerpieces.  In order to have time to complete the project, it is important to be able to attend most of the Thursdays in one month, though it may be possible to arrange to work on projects at other times.  If you have any questions or are interested in joining, please contact Amy or Chloe at 319-372-5721 for more information.
