William “Bill” James Calhoun, 91, of Montrose, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Bill was born on December 12, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Lowell and Iva (Kampe) Calhoun. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1948, and on September 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen Menke at St. Peter’s Church in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2016.

Bill was a member of the Church of All Saints in Keokuk for many years, and lived most of his life in the Keokuk/Montrose area. He was employed as a production manager at Hubingers until his retirement in 1985, after over forty years of service. Bill was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed fishing and hunting pheasant. He also always had a family dog that he cherished. On October 1, 1951, Bill joined the United States Air Force, and proudly served his country and received his honorable discharge. Bill loved the great outdoors, and was a lifetime member of Good Sam Club, Family Motor Coach Camping Club, Treasure Lake RV Camping Club and Paradise Valley Camping Club. Most of all, Bill loved his family. His sixty-four year marriage to his beloved wife Helen could only be described as a storybook romance.

Bill is survived by his son Daniel Patrick (Colleen) Calhoun of Poplar Grove, Illinois; two daughters, Kathleen Louise (Leonard) Jobe of Sandusky and Lynn Marie Hardy of Keokuk; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, his son David, his daughter-in-law Carol Calhoun, his son-in-law Jerry Hardy, two sisters and one brother.

A graveside service will be held at 12 pm (Noon) on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, with military honors rendered by the American Legion Post #41 and the United States Air Force. A procession to the cemetery will leave DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk at 11:50 am directly before the service.

Memorials may be directed to the Church of All Saints. The family would like to thank the staff of River Hills Village for the compassionate care Bill received during his stay.
