Short-handed Lady Hawks down WACO

DONNELLSON - Alivia Myhre carried a short-handed Central Lee girls squad with 18 points as Central Lee downed WACO 43-34 Tuesday night in Donnellson.

Mya Lampe was also in double figures with 10 points.

The Warriors had a two-point lead at 7-5 starting the 2nd quarter, but the Hawks rebounded behind a couple 3-balls from Myhre take a 21-13 halftime lead. The Hawks held WACO scoreless for three minutes of the quarter going on a 8-1 run for a lead they would never relinquish.

Maura Watkins had eight for Central Lee and Macy Watkins had seven.

"We were battling illness. Makayla Morrison was out and a few others have been under the weather and we had to make some adjustments on the fly," said Head Coach Jay Baldwin.

The Hawks held Ellah Kissel to just 12 points on the night. Kissell is one of the top scorers in the Southeast Iowa Superconference right at 20 points per game.

Karlie Pohren had nine rebounds for Central Lee.

The girls travel to Eldon for a boys/girls varsity doubleheader on Friday night.
