Lady Hawks rally past Falcons to move to 9-4

DONNELLSON - Makayla Morrison exploded for 14 second half points including three 3-pointers in the 4th quarter to help lift Central Lee to a 55-54 win over West Burlington Monday night in a makeup game from Friday's weather postponement.

The Lady Hawks trailed by eight with less than two minutes remaining and by five with about 90 seconds left.

Morrison and Macy Watkins teamed up for 19 points in the final period and Mya Lampe added a critical 3-ball in the fourth to help the Hawks erase the deficit for the win.

West Burlington had leads of three at the end of one and six at the half. They expanded that lead to 10 points at 43-33 to start the fourth quarter, but the Hawks rallied to outscore the Lady Falcons 20-11 down the stretch for the win.

Morrison finished with 20 points on the night, followed by Macy Watkins' 16. Maura Watkins and Lampe chipped win with five points and Karlie Pohren scored three in the first half to round out the Central Lee scoring

The Hawks got to the free throw line 17 times compared to West Burlington's 12, but converted just seven of the freebies.

Central Lee moves into fourth place in the Southeast Iowa Superconference at 8-3, and are 9-4 overall with the win. West Burlington falls to 8-2 in the loop and 10-3 overall.

Abby Bence scored 25 points to lead all scorers for the Falcons. McKenna Marlow had 19 for West Burlington.
