FORT MADISON - Fort Madison police are looking into gun fire that was reported in the 2800 block of Avenue K at 8:38 p.m. Monday night.

According to a release from Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff no one was injured, but four shell casings were recovered from the scene, and damage was observed to a second-story window at a residence in the area.

That information correlates with information from a witnesses who told Pen City Current four consecutive shots were heard prior to police arrival.

Rohloff indicated the residence was occupied at the time, but no one was in the room that received the damage to the window.

He also indicated video evidence, along with a canvassing of the neighborhood, has produced evidence in the shooting. Rohloff said it appears initially that threat was directed toward a specific resident who was not home at the time, and not a random shooting.

Officers are still investigating the incident.

The shooting comes 10 months after another incident in the 2600 block of Avenue I, where a 19-year-old was shot after a fight escalated. Rohloff wouldn't confirm if the two incidents are related.
