KPD investigating Wednesday shooting incident

KEOKUK - Area law enforcement led by Keokuk Police responded to a report of shots fired in a Keokuk neighborhood Wednesday night.

According to a release from the Keokuk Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of South 7th Street on a report that gun shots had been fired into a home in the area.

Police set up a perimeter around the home and called in the Lee County Sheriff's office and the Iowa State Patrol for assistance.

Two residents were at home when a vehicle pulled up to the home and fire several shots into the residence. No one was injured in the incident. The two residents were taken from the home to a safe location.

The investigation also included a residence in the 600 block of Des Moines Street.

According to the release, police aren't considering the shooting a random crime, but said the incident is still under investigation.
