Norma Jean Heins, 92, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at her home in Donnellson.
She was born on November 1, 1929, in Lakeview, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Victoria (Curry) Simpson. She married James David Penrod, together they had two children: Mike and Susan. He preceded her in death. She later married Glen Paul Heins, together they had three children: Mary, Fred, and David. They later divorced. After, she married Victor LaVern Derr. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children: Mike (Ann) Penrod, Susan Fields, Mary (Jeff) Hoskins, Fred Heins and David Heins; grandchildren: Jessica (Ryan) Welch, Dylan (Kari) Heins, Andrew Heins, Jake Shannon and Tyler Hoskins; great grandchildren: Jase Welch, Riley Welch, Aaron Heins and Abraham Heins; sisters: LaVonne Miller and Dorothy Meyer. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two granddaughters: Amanda Ellison and Amy Van Pelt; and a sister: Barbara Granamann - Hermann.
Norma owned and operated the Country Inn in Charleston, she cooked at many local restaurants, most recently at the Stumble Inn. She volunteered at the Donnellson Library in the genealogy department. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were of utmost importance to her.
Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Homes.
Friends may call after 12:00 noon Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that evening.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Charleston Cemetery, Charleston, Iowa.
A memorial has been established in her memory for the Donnellson Library Genealogy Department.
