KEOKUK - Freshman Brayden Wyrick scored 20 and the Central Lee boys outscored Keokuk 14-7 in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough to get the Hawks their first win of the year Saturday as they fell 59-41 down the road in Keokuk.

The Hawks got off to a slow start getting behind by 10 in the early going as Keokuk's Devon Snead scored a quick six points to start the game.

But the Hawks were able to get one of their best defensive efforts of the year in the second quarter holding the Chiefs to just two field goals to get back in it.

Wyrick put up eight second quarter points to lead Central Lee back to within a bucket at 23-21 at the half.

Keokuk, and Diego Garcia, turned the tables after the half when the Chiefs made some adjustments to deal with Wyrick in the lane. Garcia put up nine third quarter points including a 3-of-3 run at the free throw line. MJ Davis added seven for Keokuk in the period as Chiefs doubled their point total in the period to go up 46-33.

The Chiefs would hold Central Lee to just eight fourth quarter points and pulled away for the win.

Alex Sandoval had nine for Central Lee and Cory Jones had eight. Corbin Pohren scored four, all in the first half for the Hawks.

Central Lee falls to 0-17 on the year and travels to SEI Superconference South front runner New London on Tuesday night.
