Mary “Lynn” Thompson, 78, of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

She was born January 2, 1944 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Harold and Marjorie Worster Wright.  Lynn graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1962.

On December 23, 1961, Lynn was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Thompson in Keokuk.  He preceded her in death on February 28, 2014.

Lynn had been employed by the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk as the church secretary for nine years.  She also had been employed by Spurgeons and Von Maur both in Muscatine, IA, Foil Graphics in Keokuk and the Keokuk Community School District where she was known as the “Lunch Lady” for fifteen years.

She was a member of New Testament Christian Church and attended small group Bible studies at Jim and Shirley Worrell’s house for many years.  Lynn served on the board of the Keokuk Community School Foundation and served as the secretary on the Lee County Historical Society. She was also a member of the “Save the Keokuk Union Depot Committee”, Modern Quilt Guild, Retired School Personnel and was very involved in the Class of ’62 Committee.

Lynn was a skilled seamstress and participated in several sewing groups and classes.   She loved doing all types of needlework from sewing to machine embroidery and created beautiful quilts and pieces for her family and friends to enjoy.   She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan, loved to read, enjoyed photography and spending time on the computer. 

Lynn is survived by her children, Kristian Thompson (Debbie) of Rio Rancho, NM, Shawn Thompson of Elizabethtown, KY, Tim Thompson (Sharon) of Haysville, KS and Holly Thompson of Keokuk, a very special nephew, San Wright of Gulf Breeze, FL, who thought of Lynn as a mother, eleven grandchildren, Danae Thompson and Lori Abeyta both of Rio Rancho, NM, Brinda Porter of Campbellsburg, KY, Rabecca Rigdon, Nathan Thompson, Nicole Caire and Noelle Thompson all of Haysville, KS, Jeremiah Todd of Athens, AL, Andrew, Amos and Jonah Thompson all of Keokuk, IA, ten great-grandchildren and she is also survived by one brother, Richard Wright of Gulf Breeze, FL and two sisters-in-law, Becky Payne of Keokuk and Lois Thompson of Louisburg, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Phyllis Ketter, one brother, Gerald Wright, two brothers-in-law, Roger Thompson and Steve Thompson and two sisters-in-law, Karen Lander and Dee Wright. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser and Pastor Derek Olsen officiating.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m.
