FORT MADISON - The Holy Trinity Catholic boys basketball team notched it's third straight win and seem to be peaking at the right time as they downed Lone Tree 43-29 Saturday in the SEI Superconference boys Shootout.

The Crusaders were led again by sophomore Conner Gehling with 17 points. Gehling is second in the South Division in scoring with 254 points on the year or just under 13 points per contest.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 13-6 first quarter lead with Gehling accounting for nine of the Crusaders 13. Holy Trinity needed the first quarter advantage as just seven points separated the two teams the rest of the way.

HTC's defense was one of the keys to the game allowing just six points in the first and third quarters.

Luke Hellige had nine points for the Crusaders, while Adam Sobczak had six. Mikey DiPrima and Nick Fullenkamp each added four points. Maddox Rung had two and Jack Malinski had one to round out the scoring.

HTC improves to 6-14 over all on the year and 5-10.

The Crusaders take on the 12th-ranked New London Tigers on Tuesday and then are off until they take on Hillcrest Academy on the road to start Class 1A District 9 post-season play on Monday, Feb. 14.

The winner advances to take on the Winfield-Mt.Union/Highland winner on Feb. 17 in Winfield. Both game are at 7 p.m.
