HTC girls fall in SEISC shootout

LETTS - The Holy Trinity girls came from 10 points down in fourth quarter almost entirely on the shoulders of sophomore Natalie Randolph, but fell 46-44 to Highland Friday night.

Playing in the girls SEI Superconference Shootout, the Crusaders jumped out to a 10-8 first quarter lead, but then were held to just four points in the second period as the Huskies opened up a 21-14 first half lead.

The Huskies would expand on that lead in the third, despite Mary Kate Bendlage's eight points in the period.

Starting the fourth down 35-25, HTC held Highland to just two points through the first six minutes and tied up the game at 37 with two minutes left. Randolph would throw in 12 points in the quarter and the Crusaders scored seven in the final minute.

The Huskies were just one bucket better in the final minute to get the win.

Bendlage led the way for HTC with 17 points, while Randolph had 14. Teagan Snaadt had five points, Kassi Randolph had four and Raquel Schneider and Brooke Mueller each chipped in with two in the loss.

Abbi Stransky led Highland with 17.

The loss moves HTC to even on the year at 10-10 and the Lady Crusaders take on Holy Trinity in a cross-town matchup Monday night, before opening Class 1A Region 6 action Thursday night at home against New London.

That winner will face the winner of the Winfield-Mt. Union/Hillcrest Academy on Feb. 15 in Winfield.

Also in the top half of the bracket is Burlington Notre Dame as the top seed, Wapello and WACO. in the bottom half are Highland, Lisbon, English Valleys, Lone Tree, Keota and Sigourney.
