Lady Hawks come up just short in Shootout

LETTS - Central Lee wiped out an 8-point deficit going into the final quarter, but ended up three short in a 43-40 overtime loss to L-M Friday on the road in the SEI Superconference girls Shootout.

The Lady Hawks trailed 30-22 and then held the Falcons to just three points through the first six minutes of the fourth quarter while going on a 8-0 run.

With the score tied at 30 halfway through the fourth quarter, Makayla Morrison and Bailey Schwartz heated up from 3-point arch, each with two 3-balls in the final period. Central Lee held a 3-point lead at 39-36 with less than a minute left, but L-M matched a 3-pointer to tie things up at 39.

The Hawks had a shot to win the game in regulation, but the ball rimmed out.

L-M would outscore the Hawks 4-1 in the OT session to get the win. Alivia Myhre led Central Lee with 19 points including 14 in the first half on four 3-pointers. Morrison had 10 in the win. Schwartz had six, Macy Watkins had three and Maura Watkins had two to round out the scoring.

The Hawks downed WACO on Thursday 42-31 behind 16 points from Myhre, Macy Watkins had 11.

Central Lee led by just two at the half, but outscored the Warriors 24-15 in the final two periods to get the win.

The Lady Hawks are 12-8 on the year and hold a tie for 2nd place in the SEI Superconference South division with West Burlington behind Burlington Notre Dame. They play host to Davenport Assumption in the first round of Class 3A Region 4 action Saturday.

The winner will face the winner of West Liberty/Northeast in West Liberty on Tuesday Feb. 16. The other side of the bracket is West Burlington, Tipton, Mid-Prairie and Camanche.
