FORT MADISON - A citywide contest to generate a new slogan for Fort Madison as well as a new flag to represent the city is now underway.

Residents within the city limits and those attending Fort Madison schools are allowed to submit entries for the contest.

Full rules and additional guidelines, as well as entry forms, can now be found at the following link on the city's website: https://www.fortmadison-ia.com/576/City-Flag-Design-Contest

The deadline for submissions will be Friday, April 29 at 5 p.m. and they can be entered online, mailed, or dropped off at City Hall at 811 Avenue E.

A committee has been formed to review submissions that includes City Councilwoman Donna Amandus, City Councilman Kevin Rink, LCEDG Administrative Assistant Carmen Salazar, the Pen City Current, and the Daily Democrat.

The committee will pare the flag entries down to five and then the Daily Democrat and Pen City Current will post a poll with the five entries. The top three will then be forwarded to the Fort Madison City Council to pick the winner on May 17th.

The artist of the winning flag design will receive $500 and the winner of the selected new slogan will receive $250.

The new flags should have a design that works both horizontally and vertically so they can be flown or hung on the new poles that are lining the new Hwy. 61 work through Fort Madison.

An entry form for the flag design can be found at this link: https://www.fortmadison-ia.com/DocumentCenter/View/1635/Flag-Design-Entry-Form?bidId=
