DONNELLSON - Makayla Morrison and Aubree Boyd each had two goals as Central Lee moved to 2-0 on the year with a 7-0 shutout of Columbus on a spongy pitch Friday evening.

Morrison scored at 3:38 and again at 3:03 in the first half to give Central Lee a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

However, the two teams were deadlocked until the 7:39 mark when Aubree Boyd scored on her second penalty kick of the first half to open the scoring at 1-0.

Columbus would only get into the Central Lee side of the field about a half-dozen times in the first half, two of those were on resets after Lady Hawk goals. Morrison came in from the left side for her first goal at 3:38 with a shot across the front of the net into the right corner.

Central Lee would then steal the reset just over the half court line and lift a ball over the top to Morrison, who was just moved into a striker spot this game. Morrison was able to get past her defender on the way and punch another shot into the right side of the net for a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks would run away with match in the second half with Addy Brumble, Macy Watkins, and Kylie Davidson all scoring in the second half.

"The girls really stepped up tonight," head coach Antonio Estrada said. "Chy Davidson said it best, "we played hard all the way to the end'."

Estrada said he was pleased with the ease of the transition from Morrison.

"Makayla played really well tonight. I moved her up to striker from midfield and she didn't disappoint. She's really aggressive and not afraid to go to the ball and win it."

He said Boyd did a nice job controlling the field in the middle along with Macy Watkins and the other girls were able to feed off that energy.

The Lady Hawks defense of Josie Newton, Grace Hulsebus, Sophie Turner, and Davidson kept Columbus out of the scoring position most of the night.

The Columbus girls managed just two shots on goal during the match.
