William John “Bill” Polhans, 76, of Fort Madison, IA, and formerly of Niota, IL, passed away at 1:26 a.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at his home.  He was born on July 31, 1945 in Niota, IL to Elmer George & Thelma Annabel Williams Polhans.  He married Barbara Louise Lee on December 19, 1980 at the Church of the Nazarene in Fort Madison.  He was a welder at General Electric in Burlington, IA for 34 years, retiring in 2004.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant.  He enjoyed the outdoors and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Bill is survived by: his wife: Barbara Polhans of Fort Madison, IA; 2-daughters: Kimberly Polhans of Monmouth, IL & Nichele (Jeff Pittman) Polhans of McCook, NE; 2-sons: Gene Polhans of Savanna, IL & Matthew (Cayla Heule) Polhans of Donnellson, IA; 16-grandchildren; 13-great grandchildren & 2-brothers: James (Elizabeth) Polhans of Hereford, AZ & Henry (Kit) Polhans of North Las Vegas, NV.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, 1-grandson: Michael Polhans, 1-sister: Thelma Palm & 3-brothers: Elmer Jr, David & Jackson Polhans.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A visitation will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Metcalf officiating.  A memorial has been established for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Online condolences to the family may be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory website: www.kinglynk.com.
