Davis sentenced to 50 years for role in Horn deaths

LEE COUNTY - On Friday, April 15 Chad Ray Davis, 55 years old of Donnellson Iowa, was ordered to serve a 50-year indeterminate sentence within the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Davis was charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle while operating under the influence, both Class B Felonies, each punishable by an indeterminate twenty-five year prison sentence for his involvement in the traffic accident on Highway 2, east of Donnellson on August 4, 2020.
The accident resulted in the deaths of Michael and Linda Horn of Donnellson, who were stationary on a motorcycle at the time. Davis rear-ended the motorcycle which pinned the couple between his vehicle and a Mack truck just outside of Donnellson on Hwy. 2.
According to the state patrol report, the Horns were on a motorcycle facing east bound stopped in a string of vehicles waiting in the construction zone. They were behind a 2021 Mack construction dump truck, when a 2005 Nissan Frontier pickup driven by Davis struck the motorcycle from behind pinning the couple between the two trucks.
The maximum penalty of two consecutive twenty-five year sentences were ordered after Mr. Davis pled guilty as charged on February 18, 2022.
The Iowa State Patrol and the Lee Sheriff’s Department were the responding and investigating agencies. The matter was prosecuted by Ross J. Braden, Lee County Attorney.
