DONNELLSON - The Central Lee Tigers went 1-2 last week with losses to Mid-Prairie and Notre Dame, but ended the week on a good note with a 5-0 win over Tipton at home.

The Nikes had 10-goaled Central Lee last year and the Hawks' goal was to prevent that again this year.

"They were a very talented team but we made them earn that win that night.  This year, we held them to 0-1 at the half, that goal with 7:13 left in the first half.  That was a huge win for us I think," said head coach Antonia Estrada.

The Nikes scored four goals in the second half with two coming from sophomore Julianna Hill, as they shut out Central Lee 5-0 Tuesday.

"The girls fought hard all the way to the end. Our goal was to not get 10-0 and I feel like that was a win for us."

On Monday, the Hawks fell 2-4 to Mid-Prairie. Central Lee gave up all four goals in the first half, but held Mid-Prairie scoreless in the second half. Aubree Boyd and Makayla Morrison had the goals for Central Lee. Bailey Schwartz had seven saves on the night.

On Friday, the Hawks got back on track with a 5-0 shut out of Tipton.

Boyd had the hat trick with five shots on goal. Morrison and Ellie Lake had the other goals for Central Lee.

"We played well tonight," Estrada said Friday.  "We were able to move the ball down the field and have plenty of opportunities. Tipton's goalie was very busy against us tonight.  I think we were on the attacking side 75% of the time."

Estrada said Boyd's addition to the team has been a literal game-changer.

"Aubree Boyd is just a stud out there on the field.  Her awareness of where to play the ball is just amazing.  Her coming to Central Lee has been a huge asset to the girls' soccer program. I told her at halftime that I wanted to see her get a hat trick and she didn't disappoint.

"As a program, I think we are going in the right direction. Last year we only won four games and we are 5-2 this year. We still have seven games left and I believe we could win them all. I know Fort Madison and Centerville are going to be our toughest games that are left on our schedule, but I believe we can beat them."

The Hawks are 5-2 overall (2-0 SEI Superconference) and take on Fort Madison on Tuesday at Central Lee before hosting Canton (Mo.) on Friday.
