OPPENHEIMER

Jody Dean Oppenheimer, 61 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died 11:18 am Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his family.  Jody was born September 10, 1960, a son of Thomas G. and Sherry A. (Mathena) Oppenheimer.  On January 28, 1987, he married Martha Sue Scheetz. They celebrated 35 years together.

Jody was a 1979 Fort Madison High School graduate.  He was a self-employed contractor and stone mason. For 10 years, he worked at Case New Holland, Burlington, Iowa.  Jody enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a big supporter of his daughters’ passion for horses and the Fort Madison Saddle Club.

Jody was a good husband, father, son and brother.  He loved being outdoors where he provided for his family as a great hunter, gatherer, and fisherman.  He had a heart of gold and was willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He provided love, laughter and memories.  While our hearts hurt for our loss, we take comfort in the fact that he chose to donate the gift of Life and Love through organ and tissue donation.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Sherry Oppenheimer, of Fort Madison, Iowa; wife, Martha Sue Oppenheimer; two daughters: Heather (Clint) Oppenheimer-Smith, of Farmington, Iowa; Rachel Oppenheimer, of Fort Madison, Iowa; sister, Sabrina (Scot) Miller, of Springville, Iowa; three nephews: Robert, Jared and Derek; the Scheetz family, including his mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Scheetz and numerous family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, uncles and brother Shaun Oppenheimer.

Family will greet friends from 4:30 to 6:00 pm Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Holy Family Parish, Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Madison, Iowa, with Reverend Joseph Phung officiating.  Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery.  A memorial has been established, contributions may be left at or mailed to Barr Memorial Chapel, 1919 Ave F, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Oppenheimer family and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
