Reverend Jerald Wayne “Jerry” Bown, 67, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on October 9, 1954 in Keokuk, IA, the son of James Randall and Dora Nora (Kautz) Bown. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1973.  He attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree.  He received his Master’s Degree from Seminary in Lexington, KY.

On April 14, 2002, Jerry was united in marriage to Glenda Washburn in Hamilton, IL. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2021.

In his younger years, Jerry had worked as a self-employed carpenter. 

Jerry answered God’s call to enter full-time ministry and had served the congregations at Quincy First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Hamilton First Christian Church, Clayton Christian Church, Ursa Christian Church and the First Christian Church in Brookfield, MO. 

He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union.

Jerry was a model train enthusiast and an avid NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.  He enjoyed working on older cars, racing stock cars, antiquing, and watching Western movies and TV shows.  He was a devoted supporter of his grandchildren’s activities and loved to attend their sporting events.

He is survived by two sons, Abraham Benaly and Brian James Benaly both of Quincy, one daughter, Angela Benaly of California, two step-daughters, Lynette Conkright (Jeremy) of Warsaw, IL and Corrie Noble (Carson) of Canton, MO, two sisters, Jewell Wright of Keokuk and Juanita Bown (Joanie Hedrick) of Excelsior Springs, MO .  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Logan Conkright, Haleigh Noel Conkright, Grayson Matthew Conkright, Layton Andrew Conkright, Jaxon Maurice Noble, Griffin Conover Noble and Gibson Paul Noble, one great-granddaughter, Brynlynn Conkright and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Joan Wright and one brother, Jimmy Bown.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 11 am – 1 p.m. with the family meeting with friends at that time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
