Larry Ray Ballard, 69 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:50 am Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.  He was born January 10, 1953 to Floyd Wayne and Hazel Edna (Smith) Ballard.  On July 27, 1974 he married Jan Jespersen in Maryland. 

Larry was a 1971 graduate of Fort Madison High School. His first job was pumping gas at Beck Oil during High School.  He worked at and later owned the Robo Car Wash in Fort Madison.  After he sold the car wash he continued in the business helping set up car washes all over the Midwest.  He was still working for Driveline Retail Solutions, a merchandising company, doing resets at Dollar General.  He was a car enthusiast, a member of the Pen City Cruisers Car Club, and enjoyed cruise night and NASCAR.  Larry was also a Chicago Cub fan and enjoyed watching the games.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Ballard of Fort Madison; one sister-in-law, F. Louise Ballard of Fort Madison; one brother-in-law, Gerald Wilson, of Fort Madison; numerous nieces and nephews, and his good friend, Bill Johnston.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James Ballard, David Ballard, and Ronald Ballard, one sister, Karen Wilson, and his nephew, Michael Wilson,

His family will greet friends during visitation from 12:00 - 1:00 pm Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Barr Memorial Chapel.  His funeral service will be follow and begin at 1:00 pm Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.  A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
