FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison boys tennis team has been battling unfriendly weather conditions and fielding an inexperienced squad enroute to a 1-6 start to the year.

The Bloodhounds dropped two 0-9 losses in conference play this week suffering shutouts to Mt. Pleasant on Monday and Fairfield in a makeup of Friday's contest that was postponed.

Freshman Tateum Schelich has been playing at No. 1 singles and has won six games but has yet to pull in a match win. He fell 10-1 to Mt. Pleasant's Owen VanSickle on Monday and then lost to the Trojans Garrett Flannigan 6-0, 6-0 on Tuesday.

James Janic playing at No. 2 singles Tuesday night lost to Fairfield's Jace Hannes 6-0, 6-0. He was defeated in Mt. Pleasant Monday playing No. 3 singles by Elliot Cook. Fort Madison's Aleister Raines played No. 2 singles on Monday night and fell 10-1 to Mt. Pleasant's Levi Graber.

The Hounds Jed Bruster lost 6-0, 6-0 on Tuesday to Fairfield at No. 4 singles and lost to Lou Schimmelpfinnig Monday night at No. 5 10-0.

Gavin Blint lost Monday at No. 4 singles 10-0 and lost to Brenden Marcellus of Fairfield Tuesday 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles teams also were shutout both nights with Blint and Janic picking up the only games in both matches when they lost 10-2 at No. 2 doubles against Mt. Pleasant.

Fort Madison hosts Keokuk Thursday night in what could be another chilly windy affair. The Hounds' only win was a 6-3 win over Keokuk April 11 in Keokuk.
