FM boys 3rd, girls 4th at Southeast Conference meet

MT. PLEASANT - The Fort Madison boys Bloodhound team won five events enroute to a third-place finish at Thursday's Southeast Conference boys' and girls' track meet. Raquel Schneider won the 400 hurdles for the Lady Hounds to lead them to a fourth-place finish.

Tate Johnson was part of three first-place finishes including the 100-meter dash, the 4x100 relay and sprint medley relay. Johnson ran a 11.15 in the 100 and Tate Settles ran a quick 11.47 to finish fourth in that event.

Macayden Rhoer got the 400-hurdles in under a minute for the second time this year with a 59.48 for first place. Julian Dear, Settles and Hayden Segoviano joined Johnson on the 4x100 team with a 43.87 with Dear and Settles switching legs at 1 and 2.

The same foursome took first-place in the 4x200 with a 1:33.85. The boys' other first came from Mikey DiPrima who leaped 19-11.5 in the long jump.

Rhoer took second in the 110 hurdles with a 16.51 and DiPrima was second in the high jump with his 5-10.

John Cottrell took third in both the boys 1600 and 3200-meter runs.

On the girls side, in addition to Schneider's 1:12.14 top finish in the 400-hurdles, Paetyn Wiegand was second in 3000-meter run with a 5:42.40. She also took fourth in the 1500-meter run. The Distance Medley team of Lillian Gelsthorpe, Aija Jenkins, Hailey Kemper and Katie Dennis were second in the distance medley at 4:39.73.

Fort Madison girls also took 2nd in the shuttle hurdle with Schneider, Kemper, Chloe Sokolik and Jenkins with a 1:14.66. Dennis, Schneider, Wiegand and Kemper took third in the 4x400 at 4:35.39.

Jenkins also pulled in eight points with a second in the high jump at 4-10.

The boys finished with 97 points. Washington won the meet with 204 points. Mt. Pleasant was second with 122. Keokuk had 13 for 6th place.

The Lady Hounds accumulated 68 points behind Mt. Pleasant (204), Fairfield (133) and Washington (101). Keokuk had 19 to finish sixth.
