Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home obituary - Kathleen M. Blint, 76, Nebraska

Posted

Kathleen Mary Blint, 76 years, of Lincoln, Nebraska died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2022.  She was born on September 3, 1945, to Henrietta and Ralph (Pomberg) Blint at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa. She earned a degree in Social Sciences from Marycrest College in 1967, Davenport, Iowa. She went on to become an English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher and a track coach at Pilgrim Park Junior High in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. She was on the board of directors for the Elmbrook Education Association. After marrying she moved to Colorado, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and then finally to Nebraska.

She was a huge fan of The Nebraska Cornhuskers and never missed watching a game, although at heart she would always remain an Iowa Hawkeye. She often had all the televisions in the house set to watch football games at once. She would get very animated, cheerlead, and wear her “special Huskers shirt.”

She loved to cook and was skilled at adapting recipes to make them healthier for the family. She was famous for her hors d’oeuvres and appetizers. Her secret: she added garlic to everything! The meal was always on her schedule, it might have been late, but it was worth the wait. She was an avid gardener from vegetables to flowers. She enjoyed working on landscaping and manicuring the yard.

She absolutely adored dogs and for 20 years there was always at least one dog by her side. She was a “dog mom” to 6 large-breed dogs over the years. Her Norwegian Elkhound, Brandy, was her favorite, they seemed to have similar personalities. She always said she wouldn’t allow them inside the house, but every winter ALL the dogs were welcomed and warm in the house each with their own blanket.

You could often find her at the kitchen table applying her makeup, drinking her coffee, reading the newspaper, folding paper napkins while simultaneously watching “her show.” They were all her shows. She watched every episode of Remington Steele, Murder She Wrote and Hart to Hart.

She loved to dress up and she had a large collection of costume jewelry to coordinate her look. She enjoyed talking about paper dresses with Nicole and seeing the latest photo shoot. She really enjoyed dancing if country music was playing. She became a supporter of the Omaha Symphony and often attended shows with friends.

She loved supporting her grandson, Britton, and attended all his school functions, birthdays, and events. She was very proud and showed everyone in the nursing home all of the pictures from the varsity bowling team. She loved when her niece, Sara, would send pictures of her family. She enjoyed hearing about Connor, Mason, and Reagan’s accomplishments back home in Iowa.

As the Nebraska winter would settle in, she would put up her lighted village and plan her annual trip via train to Iowa for Thanksgiving or Christmas on the farm. She loved to make Christmas chocolates and sweets every year for family and friends.

Survivors include her stepdaughter; Nicole Battelle Van Hook and grandson: Britton Van Hook of Lincoln, Nebraska; Niece and Nephew-in-law: Sara and Brian Holvoet of Wever, Iowa; Great Niece and Nephews: Reagan Holvoet, Mason Holvoet and Connor Holvoet of Wever, Iowa; Nephew: Craig Blint of Fort Madison, Iowa, Sister-in-Law: Tina Blint of Fort Madison, Iowa.  Thank you to her lifelong friends Bill Graf and Jan Wojciuk-Graf of Tucson, Arizona.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Blint.
