Central Lee to transition back to paid school meals outside of free and reduced program

DONNELLSON — A U.S. Department of Agriculture program that provides free breakfast and lunch meals to Central Lee Community School District students will end at the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year.

The program was part of the USDA’s COVID-19 relief effort for schools. Because the program will not continue, Central Lee will need to resume charging students and families for meals starting August 23, 2022.

“While we share in the disappointment that the USDA has decided not to continue providing this valuable program, we wanted our families to be aware of the transition to paid school meals as soon as possible,” said Amy Fogarty, Food Service Director for Central Lee. “We encourage families to fill out the application for free and reduced-priced meals to determine if they qualify.”

Families may complete and submit the 2022-23 Iowa Application for Free & Reduced Price School Meals for the upcoming school year starting July 1, 2022. There will also be applications available at registration. A new application must be completed and submitted each year.

Information on Central Lee’s full meal prices for the 2022-23 school year will be available in the near future. Families that would like to begin adding funds to their child’s meal account now may do so at this link: https://central-lee.revtrak.net. They may also send a check to their child’s school office.

Families with questions about school meals for the upcoming school year should contact Amy Fogarty at 319-835-9510 or afogarty@centrallee.org.
