Barr Memorial Chapel obituary – Loren Michael "Mike" Hnizda, 72, formerly of Fort Madison

Loren Michael (Mike) Hnizda died while on Hospice at the Laurie Care Facility in Laurie, Missouri on Friday Nov.19, 2021.  Mike was born in Burlington, Iowa on June 25, 1948, and brought to 2301 Ave. E in Ft. Madison.

He attended Jefferson Grade School, Jr. & Senior High school, graduating in 1966.  Mike attended Southeastern Iowa area Community College in Burlington, Iowa & graduated in 1969 with an Associate in Arts degree.  He then completed a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, Missouri in 1971.

Mike worked for HyVee from the age of 16 until he retired at age 56 working 40 years.  He worked in many different stores around Iowa and always had an impressive positive impact.  After retirement, he moved to Lake of the Ozark just outside of Laurie Missouri.  Mike’s three interests were, golfing, vehicles and living on water.  He lived on the Mississippi River, Iowa River and Lake of the Ozarks.  He loved fishing and duck hunting, also photographed ducks. He always lived near a golf course and made good use of it.  Mike owned a 76 orange Corvette, a motorcycle, a small boat, and a snowmobile.  He also had a Wrangler, then a PT Cruiser.  On the Lake, he had a pontoon boat, an all-terrain vehicle, a truck, and of course he had a golf cart.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Rosa Elizabeth (Petersen) Hnizda and Loren Albert Hnizda.

He is survived by his sisters Lora May (Hnizda) Robinson from Sauk Rapids MN and Frances Dorothy (Hnizda) Freeman from Lincoln NE, many cousins, nieces, great nephews, & godson Josh Dickert from MI.

Mike’s ashes will be buried next to his parents at Hillcrest Memorial Park by Barr Memorial Chapel in May of this year. An online guest book for Mike may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
