Julie Ann Muñoz, 77, of Fort Madison, IA passed away on May 19, 2022 at her daughter's home in Iowa City, IA after a long illness. She was in the care of her family and the staff of St. Croix Hospice of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Julie was born on August 22, 1944 in LaSalle, IL, the daughter of Ysidoro and Mary Casillas Atilano. She married John Muñoz on October 9, 1967 and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison. She was employed at Sheaffer Pen and the Fort Madison Nursing Home over the course of her professional career, but her full-time job was that of a hard-working mother and wife. She enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors, but her biggest passion was her dedication to her grandchildren, providing loving care and supporting them in all of their extracurricular activities. She was famous for her hugs, and those weren’t just reserved for family. Known for her bottomless well of sass and her skill in the kitchen, her bad jokes and good cooking will be missed by all.
Julie is survived by her husband, John; two daughters Denise (Brendan Tebbs) Muñoz of Aurora, IL and Tammy (Tad) Hulst of Iowa City, IA; two sons, Muñoz Jr. of Eagan, MN, and Marty (Wendy) Muñoz of Davenport, IA; and seven grandchildren - Kendyl, Rebecca, Alex, Justin, Ryan, Kellen and Kayla, also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
The Muñoz family will host a visitation for Julie at 10 A.M. on Monday, May 23 at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, IA. A funeral mass will then begin at 11 A.M. with Father Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. King-Lynk Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
