Hancock County makes four gun-related arrests in May

CARTHAGE - Hancock County Sheriff Travis Duffy reported three different gun-related incidents over the past weekend, including one Fort Madison man.

On Thursday May 19, 2022, at approximately 2:51 a.m. a Hancock County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a 2007 GMC truck for an expired registration.

The driver, Lance D. Hocker, 26 of Fort Madison, was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. A 9mm Beretta pistol was located in the truck and Hocker was subsequently charged with Unlawful Use of Weapon.

On Friday May 20, 2022, at approximately 5:42 p.m. the Hancock Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a domestic disturbance on Co Rd 1100E near Co Rd 800N. Deputies responded and were advised that a male subject had left the scene in a 2008 Chevrolet truck. The male who was identified as Brandon L. Bough (29 of Basco, IL) also allegedly had four children in the truck with him when he left. The children’s ages ranged from 11 years old down to 16 months old. Deputies located Bough and he was subsequently charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. A Hi-Point 9mm pistol was discovered inside the truck and Bough was subsequently charged with Possession of Firearm by a Felon. The children were taken into custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.

On Saturday May 21, 2022, at approximately 10:53 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing juvenile from Hamilton, IL. Later, on Sunday May 22, 2022 at approximately 4:32 AM the juvenile was discovered at a residence near Nauvoo, IL. The juvenile was in the company of Niccolo L. Moylan (19 of Burlington, IA). Moylan was in possession of a Springfield 9mm pistol. Moylan was subsequently charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon. The juvenile was returned home safely.

These incidents along with one last week make for four firearm related incidents and four firearm seizures in the month of May 2022.

Those arrested a charged with a crime and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
