Shirley A. Ammer, 90, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.
She was born on March 16, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Sarah (Wadden) Sale. On May 24, 1953, she married Glen Edward Ammer. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1987.
She is survived by her son: Doug Ammer of Lake of the Oaks, Missouri; daughter: Cheryl Barnhart of Sunnyland, Illinois; grandchildren: Kirt (Mindy) Ammer, Tiffany (Chad) Taylor and Jessica Andrews; great grandchildren: Jordan Branden Andrews, Lilly Ann Marie Brogan, Molly Kate Brogan, Ethan Edward Ammer, Evan Michael Ammer, Ean Richard Ammer, Easton David Ammer, Dominic David Aguilera, Jackson Bentley James Taylor, Noah Nicolas Aguilera and Alaina Ann Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law: Tawnya Ammer; Brothers: Roy Sale, Bud Sale and sisters: Martha Campbell and Delores McNeil.
Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Keokuk High School. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Nauvoo. She worked at the telephone office in Keokuk before returning home to raise her family. Later in life, she cleaned and painted homes. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of and helping her family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Schmitz – Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Schmitz – Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating.
Burial will be held at the Nauvoo City Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her memory for River Hills Village.
