DONNELLSON - Jackson Manning held Central Lee to just one hit in an 8-1 Van Buren win in SEI Superconference boys baseball action Thursday.

Tanner DeMoss had the only hit for Central Lee and that came in the bottom of the seventh to break up Manning's no-hit bid.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Corbin Pohren reached on an infield error. He advanced to second on the same error and then was sacrificed to third on a bunt from Cory Jones.

Alex Sandoval then scored Pohren on a groundout to short for a 1-0 lead before a strike out ended the inning. Gannon Wells allowed the first seven hitters to reach base in the top of the second to spot Van Buren to a 4-1 lead. Van Buren's Dylan Richardson was caught stealing in the middle of the rally and a double play ended the inning, stranding one.

Van Buren would add three runs in the 4th and another in the fifth to set the final score at 8-1.

Wells went 3 innings allowing just three hits, but six runs, five earned, and walked six. Josh Hawk came on in relief for one inning and Kayden Ames, through two innings of relief, struck out five. Riley Stuecker threw an inning striking out one.

The Hawks were coming off a two-game winning streak where they knocked off Burlington Notre Dame 8-6 on Wednesday and a 6-1 win over Louisa-Muscatine Thursday.

Sandoval homered and had a double on his way to four RBIs in the win over Notre Dame. The senior went 4-6 in the win with three RBIs in the Louisa-Muscatine win. Pohren got the win over L-M going three innings, allowing five runs on four hits, and struck out two.

Hunter Edlin got the win against Notre Dame, surrendering one earned run in three innings. The Hawks put up 7 runs in the first two innings to give Edlin some room to work.

The Hawks (2-4, 1-3) travel to West Burlington Friday night for another SEI Superconference matchup.
