FMAAA's Garden Tour highlights June events

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Area Arts Association will be holding it's annual Garden Tour on Sunday, June 26th. The event highlights a full slate of activities at the FMAAA center during the month of June.

Raku Pottery Class - June 15th 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. - Raku is a technique that rapidly heats up the pottery to 1800 degrees then it is treated according to various techniques. In this case, horse hair is applied flashing away in the heat and leaving a telltale patterning on the surface. The second of two classes offered in June with a combined July outdoor firing date planned. No experience necessary. This class takes you through the basics of handbuilding to make your own piece. Cost is $45 per person. 
Zentangles Class - Thursday, June 23rd 6:30-8:30 p.m. - Design your own cards and bookmarks using repeating patterns. Easy entry level class offered by Diane Jennings. $10 covers all of the materials -- get your group together and get signed up!
Lunch ala Art - Friday, June 24th at noon - "Stories behind the Pictures" Gallery Talk by Grace Bell after the luncheon. Reservations recommended for lunch. Cost is $9/person. The gallery talk is a free event -- you do not need to eat lunch with us to attend.
FINALE - Saturday, June 25th 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. - Music concert by Iowa Ear Ensemble members John Lake, Patrick Hazell, Will & Grace Parsons. NOT TO BE MISSED!! Join us for a memorable night of music making at the Art Center in the Main Gallery. This month's exhibit was provided through the generous sponsorship of Green Frog Distillery.
Fort Madison Garden Tour - Sunday, June 26th  noon-4 p.m.  Tickets $8 adv / $10 day of - Six locations are on this year's Fort Madison Garden Tour, some with area artists Jim Topic, Carlene Atwater, and Rebecca Williamson and musicians on hand to enhance the event. Join us for a beautiful self-paced tour through some of Fort Madison's most creative spaces -- our own area gardens. The tour commences from the Pocket Park in the 800 block of Avenue G under the care of the Fort Madison Beautification Committee, winds its way through backyards across the breadth of the town, with a stop off at the Community Garden behind Hyvee to take in the efforts of our local volunteers who support the Food Pantry with fresh vegetables and produce. The Community Garden is organized and supported by Great River United Way. Enjoy talks by local naturalists and bee experts who will be on hand to discuss the importance of pollinators in both our flower and vegetable gardens. Kid's Art Camp July 11 - 15th  5-7 year olds / 8-12 year olds - The FMAAA Art Center is pleased to announce that they will be hosting their Kid's Art Camp again this year. This is an excellent creative experience for youth designed to explore a variety of concepts and art mediums. Registration is going on NOW -- get your kiddos signed up before we fill up.
