Big fourth helps Hawk boys to win over Bears


DANVILLE – Cory Jones and Ryan Roberts combined on a four-hit shutout Monday night as Central Lee shutout Danville 10-0 in SEI Superconference South baseball action.

The Hawks put up five runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead and Jones was able to keep all but two Danville baserunners off the paths in the last four innings to help Roberts get the win.

James Hemingson walked to open to the top of the fourth. Roberts would fan for the first out. Jonny Snider drew a walk to put two on. Tommy Eschman struck out for the second out, but not before Hemingson swiped second and moved to third on a passed ball.

Hemingson would score on a passed ball and Kayden Calfee would reach on an error moving Snider to third. Snider would score on another passed ball and courtesy runner Hunter Gregory would come around three pitches later on another passed ball for a 5-0 lead.

Jones and Alex Sandoval would both walk and Corbin Pohren, who reached on a dropped 3rd strike, stole second and came around to score on passed balls. Jones and Sandoval also moved up on passed balls and Jones came around to score for a 7-0 lead before a strike out ended the inning.

The Hawks would get two more in the sixth, both on passed balls, and Snider would set the 10-run rule with ground out RBI scoring Gannon Wells in the 7th inning.

The Hawks managed just three hits with Sandoval, Hemingson, and Bo Herdrich all collecting hits. Sandoval and Snider had an RBI each. Jones struck out one and gave up one hit in three innings, while Roberts fanned five and gave up three hits, while walking two.

Central Lee improves to 2-5 in the conference and 5-7 overall. They travel to Davis County tonight and then host conference leader New London on Thursday before Hillcrest Academy comes calling Friday night.
