NEW LONDON - Holy Trinity's girls put up 10 runs in the fourth and fifth inning to set the 10-run rule in a 13-2 win over New London Tuesday night.

Mary Hellige went all five innings for the Crusaders giving up just three hits on the night as HTC moves even on the year with an 8-8 record. The girls are also even in the SEI Superconference South Division with a 5-5 and mark and take on Hillcrest at home Friday night.

Senior Anna Sobczak went 3-for-4 at the plate moving her batting average to a whopping .531 on the year in the lead-off spot.

Haile Cain, Hellige, Kayla Box, Jenna DiPrima, Rachel Menke and Kylie Fortune all had two-hit games for the Holy Trinity. Sobczak scored three runs.

New London started with a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second when Olivia Hester led off with a single. HTC would get the next two batters out, but back-to-back infield errors allowed two runs to score before a ground-out ended the inning.

Holy Trinity would respond with two runs in the top of the third sparked by a DiPrima double to left and Menke's RBI single to right scoring DiPrima.

Hellige would hold the Tigers in check the rest of the way, while the Crusader offense went to work with three runs in the top of the fourth. Fortune opened with a single to left, and Sobczak reached on bunt. Cain then doubled to left scoring Fortune. Hellige would follow with another double to left scoring Sobczak and Cain for a 6-2 lead.

HTC would put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth with seven runs including an RBI double from Kelli Meierotto. Cain, Menke, Box, and Brooke Mueller all had singles in the inning. DiPrima had another double. Both DiPrima and Box scored on wild pitches.

While Sobczak leads the squad with a .531 batting average, DiPrima has the top slugging percentage at .646 and has 13 doubles on the year, which is one better than WB/ND's Lauren Summers to lead the conference. Kayla Box is tied for tops in the league in triples with. Sobczak also is 8 of 8 on stolen base attempts. Cain is 8 of 9 in steals.

Hellige has handled most of the pitching duties again in 2022. She's 8-7 in 15 starts with 54 strikeouts and a 2.95 ERA. Sobczak and Menke have seen appearances in two games this year.
