LEE COUNTY - Two men from southern Lee County were sentenced to prison last week after being found guilty of separate 2022 robbery incidents.
On September 9, 2022, Hunter John West, 18, of Argyle, plead guilty to Robbery in the 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class C Felony, Assault Causing Bodily Injury a Serious Misdemeanor, and Solicitation of Tampering with a Witness and Aggravated Misdemeanor.
The Robbery in the 2nd Degree charge stemmed from an incident that occurred in Fort Madison, North Lee County, Iowa on January 21, 2022 in which West entered the home of another person for purposes of committing a theft. The homeowner came home while West was in the home and was assaulted by West while West was attempting to flee the scene.
The Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon charge stemmed from an incident that occurred in Keokuk, South Lee County, Iowa on January 19, 2022 in which West discharged four shots from a 6 mm rifle into an occupied residence on South 7th Street.
Sentencing was scheduled for November 4, 2022 where West was sentenced to two ten year prison terms to run consecutive to each other, for a total of twenty years to be served within the Iowa Department of Corrections. Each offense carried a mandatory minimum sentence.
The Intimidation offense carried a mandatory five-year prison term before eligibility for parole and the Robbery 2nd carried a seven-year mandatory prison term before eligibility for parole, for a total mandatory minimum sentence of twelve years before eligibility for parole.
The Fort Madison Police Department and The Keokuk Police Department were the responding and investigating agencies in these matters. The matter was prosecuted by the Lee County Attorney’s Office.
Casey Alexander Young, 38, of Keokuk, plead guilty to Theft in the 1st Degree, a Class C Felony and Assault While Participating in a Felony, a Class D Forcible Felony with a mandatory prison sentence in the Iowa District Court in and for South Lee County on Tuesday November 8, 2022.
These charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 26, 2022 at Two Rivers Bank in which Young wore a mask and demanded money from the teller. Young proceeded to immediate sentencing and was sentenced to 10 years within the Iowa Department of Corrections.
The Keokuk Police Department was the responding and investigating agency. The matter was prosecuted by the Lee County Attorney’s Office.
