Banks and Beals Funeral Home obituary - Matthew M. Wilhelm, 48, Dallas City

Matthew Martin Wilhelm, 48, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Matt was born on September 15, 1974 in Brookfield, Missouri, the son of Jerry (Merrye) Wilhelm Sr. and Karen (Clarence) Piatt Jackson. 

Matt was a 1992 graduate of New London High School, New London, Iowa. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. National Guard. He worked for seven years as a security guard at the Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington. He spent most of his life as a truck driver and was currently employed by Ideal Ready Mix in Burlington. Matt enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers, ammunition reloading, buying and selling items online and especially enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and “kids.” Matt was also a diehard  Kansas City Chiefs fan. 

Survivors include his soulmate: Jamie Williams of Dallas City; two daughters: Rachel Wesely of Dallas City and JoHannah Wilhelm-Riley of Mt. Pleasant; his parents: Jerry (Merrye) Wilhelm Sr. of New London and Karen (Clarence) Jackson of Salisbury, Missouri; one sister: Jenny (Aaron) Munden of Salisbury, Missouri; two brothers: Jerry (Jennifer) Wilhelm Jr. of Danville, Iowa and Jeff (Lindsay) Wilhelm of Mt. Pleasant; a bonus sister: Jennifer (Josh) Skinner of Nauvoo; nieces and nephews: Jessica, Coleton, Caden, Justine, Jacob, Sarah, Zachary, Morghyn, Zander, Allison, Eleanor, Everly and a special nephew, Ryan Wilhelm and several special kids that called him "Uncle Matt" and loved him so much, which includes, Mackenzie, Madison, Brayden, Avery, Abbi, Jeremiah, Phillip, Hayden and Quinten. 

He was preceded in death by one brother: Eric Ryan Wilhelm; his mother-in-law: Irene Petty and brother-in-law: Rusty Petty. 

The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Hancock County Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City.
