Evelyn Frances Pierce, 101, of Montrose, Iowa went to be with the Lord  Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa.  She was born March 15, 1923 at rural Montrose, Iowa, a daughter of Henry and Georgia (Petty) Peterson.  Evelyn first married Wilber Osburne, and they were the parents of Gloria Sue and Lawrence.  They later divorced.  She then married Charles Hutt, and they had one son, Timothy.  They later divorced.  On June 14, 1968, she married Robert Pierce at Glendale, California.  He preceded her in death December 14, 2006.
She graduated from Montrose High School in 1940.  While living in Seattle and Glendale, California, she worked as an executive secretary in the electronic industry.  In 1968, Evelyn and Bob moved to Montrose where she served as City Clerk for six years.  She owned and operated Town and Country Realty, Montrose for ten years.  She also operated a Bed and Breakfast at her home in Montrose.  In 1989 they moved to Fort Madison, where they owned and operated the Town and Country Mobile Home Park.  She was a member of the Silver Cross Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons; VFW Auxiliary #2561, Mt. Pleasant; Newberry Senior Center; Martha Chapter of Eastern Star #5, Montrose; Eastern Star Diamond Chapter #37, Fort Madison; Passport Club and the Montrose Garden Club.  She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fort Madison and a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Montrose for 34 years.  She enjoyed her family, traveling, bluegrass music, camping, gardening and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.  She also likes square dancing, and picking spring flowers.  She would take a bouquet to Mrs. Youngquist and she would give them cookies.
She is survived by one son, Timothy (Eleanor) Hutt of Corrales, New Mexico; one grandson, Nicholas Hutt of Corrales; five granddaughters: Kim Harvey of Fort Madison, Iowa, Shelly Snyder of California, Rhonda Richardson of Fort Madison, Tina Villa of California, and Amy Kor of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two sisters-in-law: Wilma Peterson, of Tacoma, Washington and Dinny Peterson, of Littleton, Colorado and a very dear friend, Diane Smith, of Donnellson, Iowa.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers: Lawrence, Ernest, Merton, Wendell and Leslie, three sisters: Ruby Peterson, Fern Haugrud and Joyce Peterson, one son Lawrence Osburne, one infant daughter Gloria Sue Osburne, one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three nephews and one great niece.
Her family will greet friends from 9:30 - 10:30 am Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.  A Memorial Service will follow and begin at 10:30 am Tuesday morning at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Dave Poland officiating.  Burial will be at the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose.  A memorial has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Shriners Hospitals for Children, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Pierce Family, and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
